Collaborating to build a more resilient Queensland through Earth Observation

Queensland faces more floods and severe weather events than any other Australian state, with significant impacts on communities, infrastructure, and the environment. Earth Observation (EO) is becoming a critical tool in improving preparedness, coordination, and recovery across the state.

From mapping flood extent and storm impacts to tracking coastal change and post-disaster recovery, EO provides the insights needed to reduce risk and strengthen resilience. Advances in EO sensors, and the growing ubiquity of drones and AI technologies are expanding what’s possible while offering faster, more accurate, and locally relevant information to support response and planning.

With a focus on collaboration and innovation, this hands-on workshop will bring together emergency management professionals, researchers and industry partners to identify and prioritise opportunities for applying EO to disaster risk management in Queensland. It will explore current challenges, co-design practical solutions, and identify funding pathways to turn ideas into action.

Participants
Emergency Management and Disaster Resilience professionals across industry and government with challenging large-scale problems to solve alongside researchers and Earth observation industry practitioners with the expertise and capabilities to present innovative solutions.

Outcomes
The workshop will solicit challenges and opportunities for EO in the Disaster Risk Management domain, with a focus on flooding and severe weather events. Participants will be encouraged to explore partnerships and consider funding opportunities available through research funding and government programs.

We welcome you to register for this in-person workshop, and to circulate this invitation to anyone who would benefit from taking part.
