Joshua Davis is a SmartSat CRC sponsored, PhD candidate from the University of South Australia, where he also earned his bachelor’s degree in mechatronics engineering with honours, alongside several merit awards for his academic achievements. With a long-standing interest in both cybersecurity and space exploration, Davis found his ideal research niche in his work protecting CubeSats and other low-powered satellite technologies from evolving cyber threats. His research centres on developing a comprehensive dataset tailored to the multifaceted segments of space, namely the ground, user, and satellite components. Here he aims to bolster the efficiency and effectiveness of machine-learning-based intrusion detection systems in the space sector, to protect CubeSats and ensure the safety and integrity of the data they handle.
