Home Key Initiatives Australia New Zealand Collaborative Space Program Australia New Zealand Collaborative Space Program Australia and New Zealand are seeking to build on our strategic relationship by partnering in Trans-Tasman research initiatives that unlock information about the environment, Earth systems, and climate through the observation of Earth from space. SmartSat and the New Zealand Space Agency, part of New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), have formed the Australia New Zealand Collaborative Space Program to collaborate on space science and technology research projects. The goal is to grow the space industry in Australia and New Zealand and develop new capability and expertise in the space sector through the advancement of innovative research and development. This partnership will advance space science and deliver real-world benefits for both New Zealanders and Australians. Eight feasibility studies have been funded under this initiative. They are aimed at developing scientific capacity in alignment with industry and end user needs to address major environmental, economic and social challenges for both countries. All feasibility study projects are six months long.
