Than Myint Swe

On-ground management of soil health by integrating proximal and remote sensing platforms in northern Australian savannas grazing land

The University of Queensland

Than Myint Swe is a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland, from Myanmar. Swe’s research focus is to develop a sensing metrics framework for evaluating ecosystem benefits from biocrusts in Australian Rangelands. This research encompasses how biocrusts contribute to the integrity of Australian rangeland soils through the development of a habitat suitability model to predict biocrust presence and cover. His research also measures the long-term impacts of fire, drought and grazing on the integrity of rangeland soils.

Swe completed a Masters degree (University of Queensland, 2022), and a Bachelors degree in Agriculture (Yezin Agricultural University, 2006). He has over ten years of experience in livelihood and food security development, having worked with non-profit and non-government organizations, including WWF, Oxfam, Care International Myanmar. Swe has always maintained an interest in sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation, and possess a diverse range of skills, including remote sensing, ArcGIS products, and spatial and data analysis.
