The Queensland Earth Observation Hub (EO Hub) recently facilitated a co-design workshop called Eyes on Queensland: Harnessing Earth Observation for Environment & Climate, held in conjunction with University of the Sunshine Coast Innovation and held at the University’s Sunshine Coast campus.
The workshop saw an at-capacity room of stakeholders from research organisations, natural resource management, government and private industry working together to unpack the various challenges that end-users brought to the table, and to devise and road test Earth Observation-based solutions.
I was pleased to facilitate the workshop with assistance from SmartSat Senior Earth Observation Specialist, Fabrice Marre, who was on hand to provide the keynote presentation and set the scene for the value of Earth Observation for climate and environment monitoring and management.
Jasmine Vreugdenburg, from University of the Sunshine Coast Innovation, presented the SmartSat-supported Space to Sea Accelerator program. The program, funded in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council and Advance Queensland aims to find new and effective solutions to address increasingly complex environmental challenges using geospatial technologies. You can find out more about the program or apply here.
After the workshop, I was invited to chair a panel session for the Sunshine Coast Council sundowner event called Geospatial Intelligence IRL: In Real Life, which brought together business leaders to discuss opportunities to drive geospatial capacity building on the Sunshine Coast. Professor Stuart Phinn, founder of Earth Observation Australia, provided the keynote address, sharing his insights into the growth of Earth Observation and geospatial applications. It was a great opener for a stimulating and varied discussion from the expert panellists. You can watch both the keynote address and the full panel discussion here.
The day was a great success, creating new connections and presenting new project opportunities for the Queensland Earth Observation community.
