Previously, she completed her Masters in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Alexandria University in Egypt, specialising in emotion recognition using neural networks. Nermine is currently working on a project to develop a spaceborne RADAR system in the hopes of developing an open-source simulator that will help improve synthetic aperture radar (SAR). She also teaches a number of undergraduate courses in various adjacent research areas, such as network fundamentals and embedded systems.
