Australian space industry shines through conference season

26 Oct 2023

The Space Industry seems to be a buzz as we settle well into the end of year conference season. It was certainly a pleasure to see all of the industry partners who attended the SmartSat CRC Conference 2023, either as guests or as presenters. It was wonderful to gain an insight into the world-class work coming out of Australia’s space and research sector.

The conference also provided a good opportunity to welcome Nathan Parsons at BAE Digital Intelligence, who will be leading the engagement activities between BAE Systems and SmartSat CRC. Nathan is taking over from Jessica Formica, who has been a great advocate for the collaborative partnership. We thank Jessica for her engagement to date and welcome Nathan to the team.

“The conference struck a great balance between academic detail, high level strategic presentations and everything in between. It’s evident by the extensive PHD candidate pool of research that the work being done is resonating with the space industry. It has been an excellent two days.”

Following our own conference, SmartSat was proud to sponsor the Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference in Perth, WA. SmartSat CEO, Professor Andy Koronios moderated a panel session on Earth Observation and enhancing production and profit in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Western Australia has a thriving space industry, and it was an excellent opportunity to connect with our west coast industry partners.

The Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) have been working hard on the upcoming launch of their Australian Space Industry Capability Directory Database, developed in conjunction with SmartSat CRC, the Australian Space Agency, the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and the Office of Defence Industry Support.
This is a publicly available online database and companies operating within the Australia space sector can upload information on their organisation and its space capability direct to the portal for review by SIAA. For more information, see ASICD Information Spreadsheet – Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA).
